Eating healthy isn’t really rocket science. Unless you are competing for a body building competition in which case it really is a science, down to your macro-nutrients and getting optimally dehydrated all for that one day of looking super lean and vascular.
For the rest of us mere mortals who want to look lean and lovely but also to enjoy something that’s both healthy and hearty, there are some basic rules that will have you firmly on the right track to both looking and feeling fab because what we put into our bodies really does show on the outside.
Eat clean to look lean is today’s watchword
I know this to be fact!
The irony being that I just had my sister and nephew to stay. She’s a super clean eater too and it really shows. 4 stone weight loss! Amazing achievement. However, we were having a mini family staycation in Essex which involved primarily lounging around the house watching movies, playing video games and a trip to the Cinema. All of the above activities seemed to involve bags of crisps and peanuts, pick and mix sweets and white carbs (for the nephew and Franco in the form of hot dogs in rolls!). I think we’d reverted back to what I call the Christmas Position! This morning I actually projectile vomited and today I’ve been in bed with a migraine and an outbreak of spots. Before you ask, it was the migraine that had me bed bound, not the horror of having a rather large spot on my chin!!! I’m only a little big vain!
So clean eating really is the best thing for this little Kitty Cat and I know that by getting something really wholesome, flavorsome and nutritious inside me tonight, I’ll be feeling 100% better when I wake up tomorrow.
I’m always on the hunt for great sites for nutritional inspo and today I came across this one and we’re having the grilled Salmon tonight. It couldn’t be easier to make. We’re having ours on a bed of quinoa with grilled Mediterranean vegetables, Greek yoghurt and a dressing of lemon and olive oil.
If it looks as good as it tastes and it tastes as good as it looks both Franco and I will be happy.
The other month I was fortunate enough to visit California where the sunshine just makes everything look and feel instantly more joyous, including the food. They are big into “poke” bowls over there.
Turns out I love a good old poke too! Especially a tuna one.
If you’ve not tried it yet yourself, you really should. Again clean eating at its finest, packed with colours and flavour and full of all your essential daily nutrients. Easy to prepare at home. You just basically get a bowl and pile it high with all your delicious fresh ingredients!
It’s a concept that originally hails from Hawaii and one that I will most definitely be saying Aloha to more often.
In London you can head to somewhere like Ahi Poke if you want to try it out restaurant style before making your own at home.
Just how delicious do all these bowls look. I could eat like this every day.
We often just have a big old hearty salad on an evening too and again, same rules apply.
Lots of colours, basic natural and clean ingredients, some protein, your choice of grains and plenty of seasonal veggies.
I love Greek and Mediterranean inspired food and this salad from Half Baked Harvest is a firm favourite. Packed full of all my own personal favourites including avocado, red pepper, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, artichokes, courgettes, watercress, radishes, feta and chickpeas. Super super delicious.
So there you have it – hopefully a little bit of healthy food porn to get you inspired to eat a more nutritionally solid supper yourself this evening rather than grabbing that bag of Doritos with some dips!
