Oh how I do love a jumpsuit. It is indeed a thing of joy! So flattering. Keep it casual or pimp it up. Everyone needs a jumpsuit of SOME description in their wardrobe.
Now jumpsuits come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and they are not all for the feint fashion hearted, the rotund of belly, the stumpy of leg or the over 40 (still just about hanging onto it) fashionista! Some of them are well, just a bit, ERR NERR!!!
I leave a couple of “not in a million years or even back when I was 20” exhibits below of WHAT NOT TO WEAR when it comes to jumpsuits. Sorry to any brands I've offended but these specimens are an offence to fashion (IMO).
The fantastic news is that your high street favourite storer as well as higher end designer labels all have lots of fabulous versions on offer and yours truly has at least 6 already in her wardrobe, with one currently out on loan to a favourite FFF of mine who I have to say, looks so AMAZING in my black Essex high street jumpsuit that I may even let her keep it. (let’s see if she is actually reading this blog or not!). This is me, not her, wearing said same jumpsuit. It has a really lovely cross over open back but as usual Franco's pictures of me leave a lot to be desired. (Oh dear - look in the background, there's a bottle of wine on the table by the front door! OOPS!)
What kinds of trends are we talking about when it comes to the jumpsuit?
Sharply Tailored, Sophisticated styles
I’ve worn jumpsuits before for meetings. If you pick a classic tailored one in single colour and pair with a flattering heel it can be such a stylish look. As you all know I love a bit of sharp French inspired tailoring and it’s so sophisticated and easy to pull off even if you are vertically challenged like moi!
Here’s a selection of some of my faves all available from Selfridges this season.
Another of my favourite current sites that does some beautiful jumpsuits is AQAQ. It’s fast becoming a go to site for my ready to wear work wardrobe. I took several outfits for both day and night from AQAQ with me to my recent LA business trip.
Brightly coloured, fun fabrics and playful designs
I picked up a couple of really inexpensive, fun and flirty jumpsuits in my local high street shop, Virgo Essex, last summer and I had no end of enquries about where I bought them. I will definitely be recycling this little number again this year. It does the impossible! It makes me look like I have long legs!!! If you’ve met me you’ll know that is utterly hysterical! I have legs like little chipolatas!
Here are a couple of others that I am swooning over for this year.
You can always trust my favourite label Self Portrait to have their own unique take on a seaonsal style. I’m totally in love with these designs and feel a little Selfridges shop coming on. I still have a store card which I pay off each month so that twice a year I can have a bit of a splurge! Any one of these definitely warrants racking the debt back up again for!
Finally, throwing this one in here for the Summer. Again, I have lots of lovely little playsuits, i.e. a short suit rather than a full trouser suit that very daringly show of the body part that I loathe the most on myself - my chubby knees!!! Here’s me in a couple of mine from last summer, embracing my fun and flirty side!
