If you read my blog regularly you’ll know that I have two main passions in life; fitness and fashion. I like to think that I am indeed fashionably fit and always stylishly active! In fact, I love to fashercise on a regular basis. No fake athleisure for me ladies. If you ever see me in Lycra and Nike you can bet your perky bottom dollar that I’m either going to or coming back from Pilates, Barre, Yoga, Metafit or a Weights session. Not running. Oh no, I never go running. Despise it in fact. All that pounding on the pavement is no good for my rheumatic nerves or my already sagging jowls.
However, if unlike me you love the look of leisure but at heart you’re a lazy girl, then worry not, there are a whole host of fab brands out there that will have both of us looking suitably on point as we sashay the day away from barre, into an evening at a bar, with nothing further required than an extra slick of lipstick and quick spritz of your favourite perfume. Its Flowerbomb by Victor and Rolf in case you were wondering.
If you’ve not discovered it yet then you really should check out Fashercise No, sadly I did not invent the term, someone far more creative and clever than me coined it first but it really is truly inspired as are the ranges it stocks.
I am particularly enamored myself with Koral and Alala wet look leggings. They fabulously fuse high performance functional fitness wear with the latest catwalk style looks that will have you hot footing it from the gym to the dance floor.
I’ve mentioned We Are Handsome before as they do some fantastic swimwear but their fitness range is also perfect both for the studio or indeed, pair their t’s with your jeans and a pair of skinny leathers. So cool.
Another favourite new brand of mine is Varley. The equally fabulous website Active in Style stocks lots of this range and it’s also where I bought my APL trainers from. If they are good enough for the Hollywood A listers then they are surely good enough for the Brentwood massive! This Varley combo of leggings and bra top from the Active website is just gorgeous and I can easily imagine throwing a denim shirt and leather jacket over this whole look!
Of course, you know that fitness has become oh so fashionable when some of the biggest stars on the planet collaborate and put their name to ranges.
Ivy Park label from the goddess that is Beyoncé is a sure fire hit.
Then there is Rihanna who has created the Fenty collection in conjunction with Puma, again, active wear that translates to streetwear. Think Varsity (that’s University to us!) style detailing – preppy meets provocative as you would expect from the racy Ri Ri! I’m not sure that there is a figure out there that would suit her Deep V Sweater Knit One-piece in what is graciously described as Golden Brown. Looks more like camel to me and definitely looks like it could be guilty of providing the wearer with a namesake toe!!
Kate Hudson also has her Fabletics site – functional but fresh and funky fitness outfits. Be warned though, it’s one of those opt out membership programmes (like the wine clubs) and before you know it your account will have be debited with wads of cash that you’re never really going to spend on new lycra. At least with the wine clubs you can have a good old Xmas splurge on Prosecco and Pinot Noir. There are some lovely pieces though and I wouldn’t at all be disappointed if I was to unwrap a set myself on Christmas morning.
So ladies, get leisurely lounging and don’t worry if you don’t break into a sweat, you’ll still look stylishly fit!
