Being stylish and over forty aren’t mutually exclusive and you don’t have to resign yourself to Marks and Spencer’s for the rest of your fashion eternity. Although saying that, you would be surprised how many little nuggets I do pick up in there every season, so absolutely no disrespect intended. Right now I am coveting these boots which I think will look just darling for the office with skinny black jeans and a cashmere polo neck, along with this gorgeous little bag and red knit ensemble. They’re all getting my fashion pulse racing today. M&S, you've cracked this season's red hot trend.
Hot on the heels of LFW (that’s London Fashion Week to you lesser none fashionista mortals) here’s my take on the seasons key trends that can be adapted for us women of a certain age who are constantly struggling to bridge that gap between being comfy mumfy whilst not look like frumpty dumpty! Or an old bird, trying to re-create their yonder “rock” chick years, that being especially relevant given that feathers, fur and all things frou frou are very much a la mode. Sadly I wasn't invited by Victoria Beckham to attend her FROW (front row) but maybe next year I'll get the coveted calling card.
Painting the Town Red
I’m really very happy about this one. I discovered the red hot trend last Christmas and I never thought that it would be a colour that I could pull off with my blonde locks without looking, well, tarty! Actually though, I was delighted at how I both looked and felt wearing this bold colour so I will be recycling last year’s purchases and adding to my collection with a few strategic capsule pieces in red. Pillow box red being a particular fave. I gave a nod to this trend above with a couple of key items I’ve picked from the new season M&S. Here though are my top picks from net-a-porter, always a site I reference in many a curated wish list.
I love a sharp suit on both sexes. There is nothing more attractive than a handsome man looking dapper in a suit; two or three piece. So classic and timeless and so terribly British. I’m looking forward to seeing the new Kingsman film so that I can check out the fine tailoring. Actually, reading some recent reviews, that might be the only thing worth checking out! Oh hello, apart from him below. #iwould
Whether it’s Prince of Wales checks, hounds tooth, dog tooth, double breasted, single breasted, high waisted or trousers tapered. This season is all about the exquisite art of tailoring. It’s a look you can easily take from work to play with cashmere knit and boots for daytime attire, switching up to replace with a lame vest and killer heels for a night on the razzle. It’s also one of my own particular favourite ways to dress, especially for a business meeting when I want to feel empowered in a stylishly smart and sassy way but definitely not an overtly sexy one.
You all know that I recently moved house. Traumatic to say the least but a distant memory now I’m happily holed up in my new abode. Did you know though that I had 6 The Kooples suits to transport with me? Nah – neither did I! Quite the revelation. That’s my Autumn work wardrobe re-discovered for 2017. I personally love the French labels for feminine tailoring with an edgy urban twist. Here’s a few that I’m coveting from The Kooples ( no fashion list of mine is ever complete without this label getting a solid mention) and more scores of the doors from net-a-porter…. again.
Romantically, whimsically but gothically dark and tragically beautiful.
The sultry floral is everywhere this Autumn and I can’t get enough of this look although it does require very strategically worn accessories for me to pull off on account of that fact that I am short of limb! We’re talking heels and a belt to cinch in the waist otherwise I’d look like a demonic floral bag lady.
I’ve already posted about this Self Portrait dress and I pretty much love ALL of their range for this Fall 2017 with their use of lush velvet and gorgeous Guipure lace. I have my eye on this for a fab friends forthcoming 40th birthday. You know who you are and I can't wait to celebrate with you.
I’ve also just added these beauties into my never to be checked out virtual basket! There are some hefty price tags amongst this recent on-line haul but no doubt there will be high street versions popping up all over the place so that you can replicate this look on a budget.
How do you incorporate the silver seasonal trend without looking like you’ve stepped out in Baco Foil? Doing metallic and not looking like a mental metal mickey is hard! There’s no denying though that a strategic slither of silver will give you instant stand out from the crowd appeal. Perhaps stick to a shoe, a nail varnish or a bag!
Again, a curated collection of some items I’m coveting. I’m particularly and most deeply and madly in love with the Gucci silver and velvet brocade blazer. That is soooooooo me when I’m having one of my rock chick days! (which are few and far between it has to be said as I am currently sat here in my gym gear having come straight from Pilates to the office earlier and, then on to metafit and now back home blogging without having been arsed to change yet today. Lazy cow Bianca!)
Feathers and fur are de rigeur! See what I did there?
My top tip for this look is to invest in a piece from The Design Studio Hawarden. This is a mother daughter design duo creating AMAZING bomber jackets with a growing cult status on social media. #TDSAW17.
Can I just get it all please? This is a snap shot of their insta wares! #gofollow
Finally, this video is hilarious and sums it all up just beautifully.
I love Ava and I in fact, I wanted to be her at exactly that age. Who am I kidding, I still do! I’m waiting for you Vogue. Call me please when Ava needs a day off! #itsaboaforyourbrain
