The products this fortysomething raves about and swears she couldn’t live without!
As you already know by now I am nothing short of passionate about beauty products and one of my guilty pleasures in life is pampering myself! I absolutely LOVE discovering and trying out new products across haircare, skincare and make-up and have a particular penchant for anything that is anti-ageing! I am like a veritable moth to the flame if something promises to make me look younger, fresher and give me back that radiant glow of youth!
So todays post is a little round up of my current faves. Some oldies and a few new ones that I’ve recently discovered. Products that I love to use and that I will repeat purchase no matter the price tag. Some are cheap as chips, some I have to sell my old Jimmy Choo’s for! (yup – that is exactly what is currently going down over on my Vestiaire account #needsmust #addictedtoskincare #jimmyneedsahome)
I bought this for the first time a few weeks ago as a bit of a pre birthday treat to myself on a visit to Selfridges. I love Armani make-up and whilst I’ve not been on hols this year, I do have a bit of a tan and my skin is in good shape (no spots – famous last words!) so I don’t need the full coverage of a foundation at the moment but I wanted to have a nice soft dewy look with plenty of colour. This stuff isn’t cheap, especially as the tube is literally diddy but a very small amount goes a long way, especially as it’s so hydrating and with its SPF35, it really does kill lots of birds with the one stone. What can I say other than that I am a total convert. I’m wearing shade 5. Luminessence really does live up to its name providing you with instantly Luminous skin. LOVE.
Already a winner of the best palette award it’s easy to see why. This is my go-to essential piece of kit as you can use it to contour and define the face but also use on eyelids and lips too. It has a lovely sheer formula which really easily allows you to build colour and it’s super super easy to blend. For me this is perfect for travelling and with a slick of mascara, you don’t’ really need much more than this to create a lovely subtle day time glow on the go! Mega multi-tasking – use to define, brighten, contour and highlight your features. Well worth the investment. I picked mine up recently as a limited edition purchase from Liberty’s.
I can’t ever write a beauty based blog without giving a special mention to my ultimate favourite luxury cosmetics brand, Tom Ford. That guy and the team behind him are genius at creating exquisite cosmetics in to die for packaging. The one lipstick of his that I have re-purchased time and time again due to excessive wear is his Pink Dusk shade. It is just the perfect wearable colour for every day. It’s really flattering with or without a tan and looks great with my natural daytime look but also as a more subtle soft evening lip when I am all about the eyes. I just love it. It’s my perfect lipstick shade, really it is.
If I was only allowed say 3 cosmetics items for a trip away, they would undoubtedly have to be my Armani CC Cream, Hourglass Palette and a Charlotte Tilbury mascara. This is the stuff of legendary lashes! Yes, it really is that good. It’s lashtastic! It’s a regular birthday gift that I give to my besties as I really do think that it’s fabulous. You can enjoy a complete lashformation from day to night using either her Full Fat Lashes or my own preferred favourite, Legendary Lashes. As they themselves say, its’ like a “push-up bra” for your lashes, it really is that sensational.
Yes really, £5.90!!!!! Unbelievable price, truly remarkable range of products. We are talking science and technology fusing together to create hard working and highly effective skincare solutions, targeting pretty much every concern going and in particular, anti-aging. This is incredibly hydrating and worth its weight in gold! Quite literally ladies as it can attract up to 1000 times its weight in water meaning it delivers super concentrated surface hydration. I am beyond impressed by this range, the results and the pricing. They have it spot on. You must must try.
If you don’t know about the benefits of retinoids yet, well you should. Normally available only in professional dermatologist prescription skincare, this is a really effective concentrate for tackling the visible signs of ageing. I apply mine at night. Just be sure to also use a daily SPF. It’s seriously good stuff.
I adore this recent discovery. Makes me feel and smell like a bona fide mermaid! The scent is just divine and gives your hair an instant perky pick me up with a hit of shine and sunshine! It just transports your senses to somewhere totally tropical with just a little spritz. The smell is heavenly – all orange blossom and coconut with a hint of vanilla. I seriously won’t be without this little wonder spray now that I have discovered it! Its fast garnering cult status with fellow fashionista’s like moi!
I love having fresh blonde locks but I don’t love the maintenance, or more specifically the on-going expense! I also hate it when those brassy yellow tones start to creep in. Well I am a natural red head least we ever forget! I’m currently using a really inexpensive shampoo which has actually resulted in a fair few comments too. It’s by Lee Stafford and is called Bleach Blondes. Love the name. It’s really purple but it’s given my hair a very subtle pale pink undertone. It’s also really hydrating too and my hair feels in much better condition than it has done in a long while so a big fat thumbs up from me!
Has anyone else noticed just how expensive perfume has become these days? I’m sure you used to be able to get a bottle for £40 in duty free but seems nowadays everyone has a “limited edition”, “get your bottle engraved with your initials”, range. Not only that, but they have prices that will set you back, oh just £250 for a 50ml bottle! That is more than inflation! Seems there is no end to the voracious appetite at the luxury end of the market to have something more “unique”. Brands such as Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani, Prada, Dior, Louis Vuitton and Chanel all have ventured into this space lately. I am myself a fan of Tom Ford’s Café Rose. However, my absolute favourite has to be from Yves Saint Laurent and is called Supreme Bouquet. At £195 it’s definitely at the top end of the market but it just smells DIVINE. I love, love, love it. Its bursting with the evocative scent of my favourite white flowers and is a generous 80ml beautiful gold bottle.
Ok – so I buy this every time I go to the USA in a 1 litre bottle I love it that much. It’s hands down the best body moisturizer that I have ever used. It literally leaves your skin feeling soft and silkily hydrated and even works on dry and flaky skin. With skin nurturing ingredients that include Shea Butter, Avocado Oil and Squalene it’s a firm favourite.
I’m ecstatic whenever I receive a gift from the legendary Jo Malone. I don’t really think there is a product of hers or a scent that I don’t love. However, I particularly like the Pomegranate Noir Body Wash which gently and delicately cleanses the body but also deliciously scents it to with notes of pomegranate, raspberry, plum, pink pepper, lily and spicy woody notes.
Vita Coca Coconut Body Oil, £9.99 for 750ml
This stuff is nothing short of magic! Even Franco loves it. It’s basically just 100% raw, organic, cold pressed, extra virgin coconut oil. We slather ourselves in it! Our hair, elbows and feet, you name it, you can use it.
I especially like to use it as a deep conditioning hair mask . It smells fantastic and is just 100% natural so really you can’t go wrong.
