In a new blogpost I’ve decided to do a monthly review of all my favourite top tips, skincare secrets, beauty products I’m recommending, fab products I purchased and loved, any amazing places I visited, drinks I quaffed and lessons lived and learnt!
You get the gist – all the things it takes to be fabfitforty.
I’m slowly slowly (very very slowly indeed!) working my way up to launching my own fabfitforty YouTube channel but for now, the pen and ink (or rather my MacBook Air) are my tools along with your vision my fabulous friends.
I’m very shy don’t you know, so I’m facing my fears. I’ve been in the business of TV for about 23 years now and never been front of camera.
I also desperately need to take better and more quality, aspirational, editorial style photos. Mine are admittedly CRAP! So if there is anyone out there reading this with recommendations on equipment, lighting, positioning, posing etc to take my blog posts up a professional notch, I’d love for you to get in touch with your suggestions.
So let’s get stuck in to a few stand outs for me personally this month.
He seriously knows how to slay the golden goddess sun kissed look and his collections are also exquisitely packaged with the most beautiful colours and textures. I know its RIDICULOUSLY expensive but I just adore it all. This season I invested in The Soleil Contouring Compact in Soleil Afterglow. The powders have such a lovely intensity and with the lovely weather we’ve had (albeit for a week!) I’ve had a chance to play around with a few different looks. It’s the perfect compact for your summer hols. That, a swish of lengthening waterproof mascara a popping coral coloured lip gloss (I love Tom Ford’s Paradiso and Sweet Spot shades) and your holiday make-up look is complete.
The Sunglasses I purchased
You’ll remember that I did a full review of which sunglasses to wear for your face shape earlier this month. I did go ahead and invest in a new pair for myself too!
I’ve not been giving too many personal details away this year about my domestic or financial situation. Needless to say, it remains tragic! Anyhow, I thought that I deserved a little treat!! So I took my trusted Selfridges card for its annual spree.
What I really needed were a few work dresses. What I bought instead were a pair of amazing Christian Dior Origins 2 shades that I swear literally suit EVERYONE that I get to try them on. They really are the best all round sunglasses that I have found this year and I love them!
Mine are in the bronze and gold with tortoiseshell colour way rather than the blue featured below. I'm seriously tempted though to get these bad boys to add to my collection.
Venice and where to eat in this eye wateringly expensive city
I had the lucky opportunity to visit this wonderful place on business .
It was literally like it had been coloured in with a pantone pastel palette. Dreamy. The beauty and light was staggering.
Everywhere I looked there was a wonderfully scenic selfie backdrop! I adored the whole concept of travelling around by water taxi as opposed to being cooped up below the surface in a hot metal carriage on the under-ground.
On our first night we happened upon a restaurant down a side street close to Rialto Bridge. This is like what Piccadilly Square is to a London black cab driver but instead, think handsome Italian Gondola (what are they referred to, I don’t know, is it Drivers!!!) in their pristine navy and white tight striped shirts.
I spotted James Martin of Saturday Morning Kitchen fame sat on a table in the corner with a group of friends so instantly we knew we were in the right place. It was a gem of a find.
Fresh local produce, no nonsense, quality Italian fare at a very reasonable price, even by Venetian standards which are EXTORTIONATE! Anyone for a small €20 beer! No thanks. That's why it's my recommendation of where to eat if you go to Venice and you must try their Razor Clams. Divine.
My fit at forty recommendations for toning and tightening your butt!
It’s been all about the Barre for me if you want to achieve a rocking booty.
Never one to blow my own trumpet, even I do have to modestly say that my bum is in good shape. We’re not talking Kardashian curves but we are talking decidedly perter, perkier and tighter. I do put this down to the fact that I have been doing regular Barre classes now at Contour Pilates for some time. My legs are more toned and shapely and my derriere definitely curvier.
Of course, I do also SQUAT!!! You’ve got to squat.
If you can you MUST try out a Barre class and if you can’t, then check out The Betty Rocker on line who has some fab exercises that you can adapt for home, specifically to target obtaining a sexy ass and loads of sass! That's Betty's Beauty of a Booty below!
At home all you need to do is grab a high backed chair – no fancy equipment required.
Here are a few of the exercises that I do. Remember to please read my disclaimer. I don’t have any qualifications – these are just exercises that I do to stay in shape.
Try them in parallel, in first and in second position.
Try some pulsing action as well as going up and down for varying different counts
Incorporate some releves (that's raising up on your toes) too and actually, if you can, stay on your toes for as much of the workout as possible to really challenge your legs and work those calves.
You will blast the thighs, glutes, abs, ankles and feet
Squat to Lunge Combination
A great dynamic combo that will also provide a cardio workout so help burn calories too
Start square on to your chair and go down into a low lunge position then rotate to the left and open out into a wide second into a squat.
Repeat on both sides and try mixing it up with say 3 lunges at the bar, then out into three squats, then 2 of which, then 1 so that you really start that heart beating!
Again, doing all the exercise up on our toes is more challenging and as you get more advanced, you might also throw in side knee lift with a crunch to also work out those abdominals. You can really challenge and build on the difficulty of this series. Use your imagination and our body and booty will seriously thank you for it.
Minimum of 8 x 2 sets of everything and don’t forget to work both sides to ensure an even and balanced workout and posture!
You’re really going to challenge and work your thighs, glutes, calves and get the heart pounding
Back Leg Lifting Series
Standing square on to your chair in parallel with a flat back, raise one leg and pulse up in the air.
Then trying bending and stretching the same leg in and out towards your butt, flexing at the knee.
You might also add on a simple leg lift and lower, touching your toes to the floor; imagine a lever action.
Again, doing these on your toes again is more advanced and will challenge your calves and your thighs more.
Always remember to repeat on the other leg. Try and do at least 8 x 2 sets of everything.
You will really isolate and work that booty with these specific moves
The mantra I followed the most in June
As this is my first fabfit round that I've written, I’m going with what is actually the original fabfitforty mantra and the one that I personally live by every day.
WORD. That is all! Enough said ladies.
My top secret to staying fabfitforty
If you follow my blog or Instagram regularly you will know that I often reveal #mysecrets to staying in shape – and by that I mean both mentally and physically. You must not neglect the mind, body, spirit or soul. They all need your love and attention.
I am currently up to secret #10 in my series. It’s not rocket science but sometimes we just need reminding of the simple things in life that we can do to keep us on track. So I’m leaving here #mysecret9 which is all about the importance of meditation.
Actually, I quite enjoyed that little monthly review! I think that I will make this a regular blog feature and if you sign up to join my newsletter, I’ll create an exclusive version just for you with even more top tips and recommendations and the secrets to staying fabfitforty!
