I am a huge fan of accessories in all their glorious forms; hand bags, shoes, sunglasses, jewellery, a younger good looking boyfriend (only joking!) and really believe that they can both make or break an outfit.
What is it that Coco Chanel said about accessories?
“Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”
The key to making your accessories work is to either allow them to be the bold shining statements of your outfit, taking centre stage and hogging the limelight, or to beautifully and subtly tie them in with an overall theme.
This is especially true when you are preparing to pull together an outfit for the very special Spring wedding of one of your favourite FFF’s.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any weddings or other such glorious occasion currently on the horizon this year that will require a full "dress-up"! So I'm digging back into the 2016 fashion archives when I was lucky enough to go to a dear friend’s wedding and knew that I wanted to wear my silver killer heeled Jimmy Choo python pumps.
This is where my outfit drew its inspiration from if you like!
I also wanted the shoes to be the stars of the show (although of course had packed a pair of flip flops for the obligatory dancing later that evening!) so didn’t want the rest of my outfit to be too OTT (she says only half jokingly given that she remembers she was actually wearing blue marabou for Gods sake!)
On that occasion I went with a very plain but elegant gold silk dress from All Saints and then completed the look with my metallic Meli Melo python clutch.
A wedding is also an occasion to show off the good stuff! Your crown jewels and family heirlooms!
In my case, I’m talking the gold and steel Omega watch I own which is worth more than my car!!
This is what I call one of my investment pieces.
I’ve not written my Will yet (feels so morbid but I know its practical to do so especially as I was reminded in my pension and life insurance review last week that I probably only have about 25 years left to live) so there’s still time to stake your own claim to anything of mine you’ve always been secretly lusting after! Emma, the Vivienne Westwood bag is yours by the way! Currently, Alice my beautiful long legged niece has a seriously gorgeous watch coming her way. The Jimmy Choo’s are no good whatsoever for her (I have teeny tiny feet) so if you are a size 3.5, step right up and a pair of glorious heels are yours, still up for grabs, ready to be written in!!!
I don’t actually wear gold that often. Generally, when it comes to jewellery I’m more of a silver kinda gal. But I thought, with the silver shoes it might be nice to use gold jewellery so I turned to my favourite statement Shaun Leane earrings and matching bracelet to complete my look. I love these earrings and you can actually change the front section with a diamond stud front for example which looks really lovely.
It was a glorious spring day as I very much still recall, so I completed the look with my trusty Jimmy Choo shades.
They’re a few years old now but I love the shade and the python-esque detailing on the arms matched the clutch (well sort of in a themed but not matchy matchy way!)
Et voila, the perfectly accessorized Spring wedding outfit for a self-respecting 40 something fashionista (excuse as usual the crap photos and my ever so shiny nose!)
All I needed was a glass of champers in hand and a picture with the bride! Think the champers is by my feet!
I’ve clearly too much time on my hands as I just love putting together little curated edits of my current favourite things. I could quite literally spend hours (and often do) on net a porter doing just that! I often pretend I’ve got £10,000 to spend and go on an “add to basket” FRENZY! Such fun I tell you.
So on that note, here’s a new Spring season 2017 wedding outfit that I have lovingly curated. Don’t have one to go to this year so no excuse to purchase but I’m just going to leave this here for those of you that do! Call it my gift to you! It will inspire you to win the lottery if nothing else! Budget circa £5k!!!
