I’m still on with my quest to uncover the secrets to a flatter stomach and to banish the bloat. It’s a process of elimination and experimentation as well as lots of research. Today I’m reading James Duigan’s Flat Tummy Fast book. Well, if its’ good enough for Rosie Huntington-Whiteley then it’s good enough for lil’ ol me!
So today with the help of James I’m looking into the issue of acidic versus alkaline foods and how one can play havoc on your system whilst the other brings calm and tranquility!
Apparently the aim should be for 70% of your food intake to come from alkaline versus acidic based foods IF you want to achieve a flatter and less distended belly. The reason being that acidic food causes stress on your system and that actually stops you from creating lean muscle which in turn fires up your metabolism. As we all know, the more revved up your metabolism is, the more your body burns fat. It’s just like a car engine running on petrol! You need to put your foot down and not be driving around like Miss Daisy!
I’m in no way qualified to dish out advise on anything other than what colour shoes I think look good with your dress but I do a lot of research and present back what I think makes sense and from personal experience, this does just that. Plus James has a picture of his gorgeous wife on the front cover of his book who is quite simply stunning with a figure to die for so if she’s listening to him indoors and taking hubby’s nutritional advise on board then it sure as hell is working out well for her.

Who hasn’t felt the effects of too much pizza and white wine? Right now I’m feeling bloated, sluggish and have a rumbling tummy after my extremely delicious but very acidic chili con carne supper last night! Can you believe it? I live with a Mexican and he asked me to make the chili! Apparently I do it better plus it’s not technically Mexican cuisine anyway, its TexMex. Anyway, this one had beef, dark chocolate and hot coffee in it. Totally scrummy but three top acid producing ingredients right there and don’t even get me started on the effect the kidney beans have had on us both this morning!
So more alkaline foods required today as I have a tight dress to get into for my girls’ night out in London later. I tried it on yesterday and it was a bit snug then! I blamed that on my back muscles!!! Yeah right. I may need an outfit rethink.
There are other negative impacts to your body of a diet that’s too acidic, other than the dreaded pooch! More frequent colds, low energy levels, headaches, joint aches and nasal congestion. Sound familiar to anyone?
None of this nutrition stuff is ever really rocket science either girls.
You need to be eating clean to stay looking lean!
For example, have a serving of protein but with two big portions of veggies. Most meats area acidic so that would be your 30% quota of a meal unless its chicken which is apparently alkalizing. Conversely too, limes, lemons and grapefruits aren’t acidic but fruit juice is.
There are loads of alkaline food sources but here are a few of my own personal favourites
Lemons and Limes
I’ll be looking in more detail at the effect that stress and also lack of sleep can also have on your mid-section but for now, try and neutralize some of that excess acid and be prepared to say hello to a happier and flatter yummy tummy!
