Yes you heard me right! Chocolate is good for you!
In it's pure form as cacao that is.
It's the sugar, dairy and other additives that go into your bar of supermarket shite that are the problem. Actually that's a bit harsh as you can get really good quality chocolate off the shelf these days but you most definitely want to be steering well clear of the 30% cacao variety!
Did you know that cacao is actually a high energy and weight loss product? Well, according to David Wolfe the cacao master that is.
It's rich in antioxidants, magnesium, iron, chromium and a whole host of other fantastically beneficial ingredients and most notable of all, it's a fabulous mood enhancer, crucial in the production of serotonin which is why we often reach for it during that time of the month or whenever we are feeling a little anxsty.
It's even better still if you can make your own chocolate treats and easier than you might imagine. Basically you need a blender of some description, cake tins, parchment paper and a fridge/freezer.
Here is a fabulous recipe for a basic chocolate bar.
1/2 cup coconut oil melted
1 cup cacao butter melted
1 cup cacao powder
1/4 cup of date paste or your choice of sweetener
2 pinches of sea salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional
1. Place everything into your blender until you get a nice smooth texture
2. Spread your mixture in a container lined with parchment
3. Place in the fridge
4. Wait a few hours then scoff!!!
As you get more adventurous, you can toss all kinds of lovely extras into your home made choccie bars with almonds, cherries and mixed seeds.
