Despite the fact that it’s still only 2 degrees out there, I have a little spring in my step today!
I love that we have seasons which mean we can have 4 distinct transitional fashion trends. Any excuse quite frankly! Putting the puffa away for your rain mac! Ditching the thick black tights and getting out the sandals. OK – so we’re not quite there yet, but fore warned is fore armed and I want you to be ready to spring into action and put your very best sprightly fashion foot forward the minute the temperature goes into double digits.
I do so love a woolly jumper. Autumn fashion is probably my favourite with its sumptuous cable knits teamed with a pair of skinny ankle skimming jeans and trusted biker boots. Hides a multitude of sins!
But what I hear you cry does Spring 2017 have in store for the 40 something fashionista with her finger still firmly on the beating pulse?
Well here you have it, my #springwatch selection.
Invest in say 3 of these key trends and you can create your own on capsule wardrobe that will have you sashaying through to summer. Personally I’ll be all over the white shirt dress, looking for interesting off the shoulder styling and anything with vertical stripes to make me look longer and leaner.
Below are what are tipped to be my six key spring seasonal trends to invest in.
All the usual high street faves will be stocking their versions of the catwalk hits but my selections have come from my favourite site https://www.net-a-porter.com/
White shirt dresses
Don’t have one, can’t wait to invest in one.
This is going to be a super easy to wear, accessorize and adapt trend that will provide tones of styling options. Be on the lookout for interesting hemlines and sleeve detailing. Or keep it crisp and clean and utilitarian looking. It’s so versatile and can look feminine or androgynous. Here are a few edited highlights.
It’s always been a wardrobe staple of mine so when its back on the radar, mine gets a good old dry clean ready to make a re-visit. In fact, I can double whammy on this one as my trench coat is khaki (read on).
Ooh actually, I also have a long slouchy styled bottle green one which I bought last year from Sandro and was very nearly about to put on Vestiaire which backs another of the trends that I’ve not detailed out (because quite frankly it’s too damned silly for a 5ft nothing 45 year old) and that’s the robe. Yes, you heard it here first, dressing gowns as outer wear are all the rage! No thanks.
So trench coats are royally back in fashion and with longer length detailing, big buckles and fabulous fabrics, they’re anything but run of the mill. I think there is something super sexy and sophisticated about a trench coat.
From seaside inspired sticks of rock style stripes and beach awnings to Wall Street inspired bold banker suited and booted stripes. Make sure they’re vertical and you’ll also create a lovely long silhouette too.
Well actually, did it ever really go away? Such an easy colour to wear. I might do a full khaki style board as there are so many options we can cover off. Khaki isn’t just for off duty street style either.
Be your own ray of sunshine this spring even with the obligatory showers. There’s a hue of yellow to suit all skin tones so pick yourself one bold headline grabbing item and wear it with confidence and vigour!
Single shoulder cut out, off the shoulder styling and strategic sleeve slits!
Here’s an interesting one.
Being a self professed queen of the press-up this is an area of the body that I particularly like to show off! The shoulder. So strategically placed cutouts on shoulders or sides of sleeves are in this Spring. Dare to bear a bit of flesh? Go on. You’ve a few months to get those arms in shape so drop down on your knees now and give me 10 press ups ladies. Time to banish those bingo wings so that you don’t look like a flappy old bird in this latest trend!
Overall I'd summarise the look this Spring as being seriously #fresh.
Love to know what pieces you invest in and better still, see some of your own creative combos posted over on my Facebook page. I'll upload some pic's of me wearing some of my key investment pieces (when I've bought them!)
