Today’s coach and mentor is Claire Obeid and she is sharing with us her 21 favourite ways to cultivate balance, happiness and health of the Mind-Body-Soul. I’m hoping there will be some tips that I can implement in my own life to restore some of that equilibrium as more often than not I’m left feeling drained rather than enlightened!
Claire even looks “serene” you can positively see the vibrancy shining out of her. I just know that she is going to have some pearls of wisdom that will have me in good stead for my own #30daysofyou journey!
First up is an absolute corker and one that I’m sure we’re all guilty of. Actually, it’s something that Franco is often berating me about too as he thinks I’m far too consumed by it – COMPARISON.
Looking, not just at other people’s lives, achievements etc but also your own previous ones and finding your present self lacking. Try instead to see all of these as causes for inspiration and celebration. At our core we are all the same and that means we are all basically AMAZING! I like that! Yes, I am amazing. FABULOUS no less! So allow those feelings of comparison to positively propel you forwards into your own success and be sure to always praise those around you and yourself for wins, no matter how small or insignificant they might feel.
I can be a bit of a doubting Thomas when it comes to my own abilities. I’ve only ever been told that I’m “ace” by my parents so I’m not even sure where the lack of self belief has come from. Might need some therapy to un cover that one! So I’m going to very intentionally and purposefully feel proud of myself over the next 30 days and stop with the disrespect.
Claire is a strong advocate of meditation. At least 20 minutes a day. I’ve never meditated.
I find time for exercise, I find time for blogging, but meditation is not something that I’ve ever attempted. For me, my exercise is my meditation, time to shut out the chatter of my brain but I’m not truly “still”. So I am also going to commit to trying some guided meditations too. Can’t promise that I will do it every day but I will try and do at least 2 sessions a week for the next month. I’ll report back on how its helped me personally (assuming that it will!).
This session is all about clearing away “clutter” too. I love a good old spring clean and I regularly recycle and take my clothes to charitable organisations. Do I have too much “stuff” going on in my brain though? Well the fact that I suffer from regular insomnia answers that question. If your brain is full and congested then its lacking in clarity and that makes it all the more difficult to move forwards. So time to do a quick cull and cleanse on my life! EEEK – what am I going to ditch I wonder?
The next part of this session is already something that I try and follow. My PT is a strong advocate of this – keeping your food real, whole and clean.
What that really means is ditching the processed and keeping your food choices as close to their original source as possible. That way, what you see really is what you get. No silly fads. God knows I’ve tried a few of those over the years. My business partner and I loved a good old stint on the cabbage soup diet! Jacket potato day was literally like bliss!! You need to understand and recognize any cravings that you might have and not use food in an emotional way. Chocolate on your period? Stressed out at work so reach for the bottle of wine? We all have them don’t we?What we should really be doing is expressing those emotions, not stifling them. And less sugar. Always strive to have less sugar! So many beautiful benefits will come flooding your way – increased energy, productivity, cleaner mind, glowing skin, beautiful body. What’s not to love about those benefits!
So we’ve looked at the mind and the body, now it’s time to turn our attention to the soul. This section is all about that beautiful word, GRATITUDE. I have it written down in my journal, GRATITUDE IS THE ATTITUDE. You really should get into the habit of being thankful every day. Say it out loud and proud, write it down, mull it over mentally before you go to sleep but always find time to be thankful. Make sure you are regularly connecting with like minded people, be that over a cup of coffee, a glass of wine or the yoga mat! And finally, fix your mind on abundance, not scarcity. There is MORE THAN ENOUGH. I’m rubbish at this. I’m often focused on the lack “ I’ve not got enough” mentality. Normally its money right! For you it could be time or energy?
For me perhaps this is the most important lesson and the one that I really need to work on the most over the next 30 days. Wish me luck! I think the next session is all about money training so I literally can't wait to dive into that given that this week has mostly been about completing my self assessment tax return!
