So my first mentor is the gorgeous Debbie Spellman, who has the most captivating voice as well as looking utterly gorgeous. I could sit and listen to her all day but I do have a day job so after today I'll be allocating an hour early doors before my working day gets fully underway to dedicate to “me” time.
She talks about “living with intention” and I like that. When it comes down to it, I think it’s about being in the driver’s seat of your own life.
It’s about feeling vibrant, fulfilled and purposeful and I think that’s what fabfitforty is all about. She also has a really valid point that where attention goes, energy flows and so its vitally important that you stay in complete control of your thought processes as they really do create the life you are living – positive or otherwise. It’s so easy to get pulled down by the external forces surrounding you and lose your sense of "YOU".
So many of us complain that we don’t have enough time but really what we don’t have is the right priorities in place so this session is all about understanding what’s important, where is our time currently being concentrated and do we have the balance right?
If not, then it’s time to re-prioritise and ditch the dead wood in your day.
I’ve already pretty much honed down my day to be as productive as I can be. It really is amazing what you can fit in if you create a schedule and time slot for everything that it’s important for you to fulfil. Some might think that’s a bit sad. Where’s the spontaneity? The point is though that by structuring your life exactly in this way you have more time for just that, to be spontaneous. To do the things that you love.
I never realized till now but that’s pretty much how I’ve always run my life. Since I left home at 18 I’ve spoken to my parents at 6pm on Sundays without fail. Doesn’t matter where I am in the world. Of course, I speak to them more often than that on “regularly” ad hoc basis but that Sunday hour is our sacred family time and is firmly planted in my schedule and forever will it stay there.
Now I need to start applying more of that logic to the other areas of importance in my life that have been neglected up until now; Debbie tells is that there are 6 key areas that we need to find our optimum balance for:
Not in that order of priority – my order is for me to know and you to take a guess at!
Debbie tells us that the important thing is not to be lead by our emotions and how we’re feeling during the course of a day but to go ahead and do things we’ve planned to do. Be INTENTIONAL. We’ve all been there, full of good intentions that we’re going to Body Pump on Wednesday night then we have a bad day at work, pick up a bottle of wine on the way home and plonk down in front of the telly instead. #epicfail
Everything worthwhile takes effort and might take us out of our comfort zone. Instead of taking the path of least resistance, challenge yourself, commit to living your life intentionally.
For me, that has meant creating a schedule that absolutely allows me to exercise most days. It’s vital to my overall physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. For you it might be having a coffee with your girlfriend’s, preparing a home cooked meal for your family. The point is, it’s OK to indulge yourself and to live life according to your own priorities. There is time and enough space for everything if you just schedule it accordingly.
So come on ladies, you don’t need to have a new journal like me to to do this, you can use Google Calendars, but write down the things that are important to you and find a place in your diary and firmly wedge them in there. #nomoreexcuses
Can’t wait to see what my next day holds in store – I’m really going to have to start getting up early if I'm going to do the challenges AND report back on them too!
