Thought I would round up the year with my recommendations on the best beauty discoveries I made this year, all of which have been tried and tested by yours truly. Some of them are perennial favourites which will feature on any beauty haul Top 10 that I put together for years to come. Others are new entrants on the beauty block that have passed the Triple F test!
I first introduced you to this back in my blog about skincare serums. I love discovering new skincare brands and Sunday Riley has been one of my favourite finds in 2016. I just adore this treatment and lucky old me, I was given some for Xmas by one of my favourite (not yet an FFF as she’s still in her 30’s!) friends. I’d literally just run out too so THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Pippy Duck. It's just amazing for giving your skin that extra glow. You really can just pop this on and head to the gym - no need for anything else. It brightens, refines and plumps and has an almost zingy, zesty like texture and sensation when you apply plus a fragrance that just gets your senses going. I can’t recommend this product highly enough. It's fab and definitely worth trying out. I usually stock up in Space NK where this costs £85.00
The stuff quite literally of legend! I've you've not yet tried it, where have you been? Was it on your Xmas list? Did Santa deliver the goods! The jury is most definitely in full and final agreement when it comes to the remarkable benefits of this patented wonder serum. It bloody well works! Apply every night before bed and wake up looking fresher every morning. You are going to have more youthful, younger, hydrated, rested and even toned skin. I rest my case. Usual price around £52.00
This is a transformative over-night serum that gets to work healing and restoring your skin whilst you do the important things, like sleep! OK, its not cheap but they have fabulous offers and discounts and right now you can purchase it with a whopping £40 off the usual price tag. This product has been awarded “Best Serum” by Vogue Beauty so you know it’s going to be good. The magic ingredient in this elixir of youth is colloidal gold which promotes a radiant and youthful experience. Currently on offer directly from the Omorovicza official brand website at £148. Worth the investment.
Quite literally I can not get enough of this stuff. I buy it in litre bottles I love it so much. It’s unlike any other body moisturizer I have ever tried in terms of its effectiveness. Packed with shea butter, avocado oil and squalane. I CHALLENGE you not to notice the difference if you use this for 10 consecutive days. Its super, super hydrating and will leave you with baby soft touchable skin!! Hands down one of my favourite products EVER and always in my bathroom.
Wearing this is like being transported onto your summer holidays. It’s silky, lightweight and none greasy and has a gorgeous almost sensual scent. On tanned skin it really is divine but it gives a lovely golden iridescent glow all year round and whenever I have an opportunity to bare my arms or shoulders, I spritz on this gorgeous oil so that I invitingly sparkle to be touched! Available from John Lewis for £70.00.
Another favourite all round skincare brand of mine, I love this radiance body scrub. It smells just wonderful and has a fabulous texture. Not at all aggravating to the skin considering that its a scrub, its packed with fatty acid rich bio-oils. Great for flaky or dry skin and just lovely pre or post holiday to prolong and intensify that golden tan. If you’ve not been introduced to this brand yet, I urge you to try it out. You’re going to enjoy high end spa experience products, seriously packed with nutrients that deliver outstanding and truly visible results. The Elemental Herbology experience is all about the pursuit of health, nutrition and well-being which is a personal mantra of mine.
Having literally been disguising the fact that I’m a “ginger” for at least 25 years, I take my hair care seriously as I need to keep my parched blonde locks in tip top condition. I love this range but I particularly adore this product. I’m pretty crap at styling my own hair but I don’t have to worry with this secret weapon. It quite literally, with a few highly targeted spritzes, give you beautifully natural looking beachy waves. For that tousled “just off the beach” look but without any of the stickiness. It also provides a luminous shine to the hair too so is pretty multi-tasking as hair products go. Buy yours from Space NK for £34.00
My hair regularly needs some TLC and this strengthening masque is great for my dry and brittle bleached hair. It smells amazing and leaves your locks luxuriously soft and sleek. I use this at least once a week and massage onto lengths and ends then wrap my hair up in a hot towel for at least 10 minutes. Hair feels immediately super smooth afterwards. I love it. A great treat if you need to strengthen your hair. Usually costs around £29.00.
Being a natural red head but choosing to pretend I’m a blonde means that I have a tendency to go a bit “brassy”! Brassy might be a great addition to an orchestra but it’s not a look I’m keen to emulate. So once a week, to maintain the white hues I’m looking for, I wash with this Silver shampoo from L’Oreal’s serie expert range. With a specific anti-yellow action, its not going to make your hair grey (although if you opt to leave it on for a while you can achieve quite a dramatic lifting action) but it will help reduce those unwanted yellow tones if you regularly highlight your hair like me. Generally will cost around £10.00
It’s difficult to pick only a few but I do have some notable favourites from 2016 and I have attempted to whittle this down to just three which have been featuring regularly on my lips of late. A special mention also to Charlotte Tilbury and Kevin Aucoin both of who’s lipsticks I do adore.
Have you EVER EVER seen such sexy packaging. It’s just orgasmic! They’re like little works of art and at £60.00, for what is essentially lip gloss, I’m starting to realise why I’ve been on the verge of bankruptcy this year. But MAN, these are just the business and this particular shade is great for every day wear. Its highly pigmented and literally GLIDES onto the lips. I’ve never worn a gloss that’s so deeply dimensional in colour but so none sticky too. It’s also full of collagen stimulating peptides too so provides a sultry puckered pout. £60.00 from Selfridges but looks so good you can wear it round your neck as a piece of fabulous adornment so really you are getting two products for the price of one! I can’t wait to try out more shades in 2017!
In search of the perfect wearable killer red lipstick then STOP right now. I found it this year. This is virtually weightless, totally none sticky, super moisturizing but PACKED with highly pigmented full colour coverage. No feathering or bleeding which is always the trick when achieving and on point red lip. This gives fuller more youthful looking lips that are just crying out to be kissed. I’ve worn it a lot over the Xmas season. £33.00 from Space NK.
Its official. I just went and checked and I have 22 Tom Ford lipsticks. That means I’ve spent almost £1000 on his lipsticks alone. I actually feel more than a bit ashamed. Hands down my favourite is his Spanish Pink. It’s my daily go to lipstick and I never leave home without it. Apparently his lipstick’s feature Brazilian murumuru butter and chamonilla flower oil to create that ultra-creamy dreamy texture. All I know is that I love them. Even at £39.00 a pop!
I could most definitely go on but I will leave it there for today.
I want to cover off divine scents too but I could quite literally have a field day on that subject. On a recent visit to Dublin with my BFF we literally spent an hour every day in the perfume hall at Brown Thomas! I have some Selfridges vouchers which I’m holding back for a new scent purchase and I’ll let you all know what I go for next!
If I was to pick my 3 essentials from my 2016 beauty haul they would be:
Sunday Riley Good Genes
Kiehls Crème De Corps
Christian Louboutin Altrareva Loubilaque Lip Lacquer
