Three successive days of gloriously indulgent binge eating and drinking over with, today I'm back in the gym and reaching for the kale to make my super green smoothie for lunch. Agreed, its an acquired taste but as they say "nothing looks as good as healthy feels".
I totally loved being able to wear my Christmas dresses but New Year is still to come and I have something just as spectacular planned to see in 2017 so its time to HIIT the gym hard and pull out all the anti-bloat detox miracles I can muster!
My fat goes to my belly, mostly because its all alcohol induced!
I've successfully trained myself out of what used to be a very sweet tooth and I've always been a bit of a grazer so portion control isn't something I have to battle with. Just ask my business partner. He loves going out for a meal with me because there's always plenty of leftovers for him to devour!
I've definitely noticed a little bit more of a "paunch" this morning compared with this time last week. I'm positively "rotund!" That just won't do at all. I feel sluggish, lethargic and generally, well, a bit stuffed!
"Stick a fork in me, I'm done!"
So this morning I hit my home #garagegym in my brand new workout wear from #littlemix by #USAPro (I went for the Jesy grunge look with lots of sassy mesh detailing - thanks Ed and Claire for organising with Santa!) and did a 20 minute HIIT workout in combo with my regular weights and resistance training. I threw a few of my favourite #pilates moves in there too! You just can't beat a pike into a press-up on the old reformer. So challenging for the core.
If you've not yet been introduced to the wonderful world of HIIT (AKA high intensive interval training) then you are missing out on a real tried and tested fat burning treat.
I do mine at least twice a week in the form of a #metafit class round at #APT in Brentwood. I have a merry little gang of dedicated fellow meta-fitters and we just love the short sharp and intense bursts of exercise that have us in serious fat burning zone for at least 24 hours afterwards. Result! They also have us sweating and panting and generally also giggling (but that's another story and more to do with our fabulous instructors Anita and Martyn and lets just say, their unique sense of humour)
Here's a little taster of what you can expect from a metafit styled workout
It's been scientifically proven by the Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness that if you combine HIIT training alongside other more steady workouts or cardio, you'll SIGNIFICANTLY increase your overall workout results.
HIIT really is the QUEEN B when it comes to incinerating visceral belly fat.
The theory is that because it is short and sharp and super intense, we all actually give it 110% effort, pushing our bodies to the limit harder and faster to get those much loved results. I think the shorter workout periods trick our mind into "going for it"! You know its going to be over pretty quickly so what the hell, lets just get this done!
You're also really going to notice in a very short space of time a significant improvement to your overall cardio fitness if you do regular HIIT sessions. If you are training for any other form of cardio goal (marathon for example) then definitely look to introduce some HIIT into your 2017 training plan as it will really help you reach your other goals faster.
What about diet?
I'll also be guzzling the water and green tea by the gallon this week.
I'll also be swapping back to plenty of freshly prepared juices and upping the salad and veggie portions. And no, I don't mean more roast potatoes! I seriously over indulged on the tatties this Xmas. Man did my host and hostess put on a magnificent spread. I was in a blissful roast potato coma!
Instead, think all things green - broccoli, kale, green beans, spinach - load them up and you'll not only feel lighter, you'll be looking leaner and bursting again with tones of energy before Saturday night.
Detox your skin
Its also a great idea to detox your skin too. I'll be taking regular mineral salt baths before Saturday evening. I just luxuriated in the bath after my morning workout. I received a couple of products for Christmas this year which I've just made full use of.
The first was from a brand called Arad.
They have amazing dead sea bath salts. So relaxing and revitalising for both the skin and body, not to mention the mind. This particular concoction has over 26 different minerals - great for drawing out impurities. Its a wonder I didn't turn my bath water red!!!! I've had such a biblical amount of red wine this festive season that I must have been on the verge of creating my own mini miracle this morning!
For my face, I just adore the Deep Cleansing Mask from Omorovicza.
Its a Hungarian skincare range that again, is based heavily around the many healing benefits of minerals and clay.
Rich in calcium and magnesium, this mask made from white clay will help to detoxify and brighten a congested complexion, effectively drawing out impurities to reveal not just brighter but also tighter skin. If you head over to their site today its in the sale so you can snag yourself a bargain too. It smells divine too and has a lovely texture. It feels very much like a high end spa treatment from the comfort of your own bathroom. Its a regular fixture in my anti-ageing routine.
Xmas might almost be over for another year, but with New Year still to come, make some time this week ladies to get yourself back on fabulous track and maintain your FFF status. I'll be with you every step of the way again in 2017 to have you looking and feeling your most fabulous #fabfiternity.
