I take my fashion and my fitness seriously. None of this all the gear no idea for me! Well, maybe a little bit of form over function but I do like to look the part, no matter what the occasion, and these days the catwalk has very much collided with the cross trainer resulting in some fabulous design inspired workout wear that seamlessly fuses fashion with fitness.
I call it fashercise and it means you can be #stylishlysweating!
For me, life in general is a catwalk. Every day I make it my motto to get up, dress up and show up. I take my leaf from Coco Chanel. She gave us so many an inspirational quote to live our lives by.
Coco inspires me and of course, Beryl!
Like my mum used to say, "always put on a clean pair of knickers Catherine because you never know when you'll get run over by a bus!"
Its the same when it comes to fitness (although I don't always wear knickers it has to be said! Bit of an issue when its measurements day! EEK!) Yes you need to be comfortable but you should also bring your personality to the gym and flaunt your figure in something stylish as well as functional. Its all about a embracing a lifestyle which is why I've created the #fabfiternity to celebrate my own love of fashion, fitness and fabulousness! I'm even going to have my own fitness range as part of a collaboration I'm working on for 2017! Super excited about that one.
With various celebrities lending their names (if not their designer talents) to creating workout ranges, there are lots of gorgeous options out there to try. So commit to get fit in 2017 and treat yourself to a fab new workout outfit that will really motivate you to get off your ass and work it baby.
Here's my round-up of just some of the great labels popping up in my fabfit league of fashion.
I'll be sporting a few of these ensembles myself next year when I finally pluck up the courage to do my #fabinfour video workouts.
Oooh - but before we get into that, I do have a little story to re-count of my early days working out and why actually wearing knickers or an appropriately tight fitting pair of leggings is super important. I've not always been a gym bunny! I've always exercised (gymnastics was my thing as a youngster - I used to love picking out a new leotard!!!) but I didn't join a gym with equipment until the 1990's when I moved to London. It was all aerobics classes and grapevines back in the day! In my very first circuit class we had to quickly hop onto a moving treadmill. Moving pretty fast as it happens. I tripped and slipped and ended up at the bottom of the treadmill on the floor with my baggy sweatpants somewhere around my knees. Seriously. Not a good look and definitely a good job that I was wearing big girls pants that day. So, I wasn't always #stylishlysweating. Sometimes I was just a hot darned mess.
Well if its good enough for an Angel then its most definitely good enough for us mere mortals. They do the best bra's around offering that rare combo between style and support. Its a genuinely well thought out sports line, with a heavy focus on function and a strong smattering of fashion. Their range is all about supporting your body whilst it's in ACTION! Individual items start from around £14 and you can get a whole ensemble for under £50. Here are some items I've coveting myself which I'm sure will increase my performance!
The brain child of none other than gorgeousness of gene pools that created Kate Hudson, this is a fabulous website that provides access, advise and carefully curated outfits to meet all fitness needs. They offer a mix and match monthly subscription service which allows you to get 50% off your very first outfit and the option to cancel at any time. Think of it as the building blocks to your fabulous lifestyle wardrobe. Timeless styles and pieces that will transition you from the gym to a coffee with the girls. This is a true tried and tested essentials range perfectly fusing that off duty gym style.
The label created by Beyonce for women who want to look and feel at the very top of their A game. It claims to merge fashion led design with technical innovation to create modern performance wear at its sassiest. She's an FF not an FFF and no mistake. The words fierce and fabulous are synonymous with her booty and if just wearing one of her items of clothing allows us to channel even 10% of her fineness then it is money well spent. Good news is that you can pick up the range at various places on the high street including Top Shop and J D Sports.
They might be 20 years younger than us, but those cheeky minxes have certainly put a cracking range of fitness wear together that perfectly fuses fashion with function and that appeals to all body sizes and tastes. Its a comfortable and well thought out range that can be worn as "leisurewear" not just as workout wear so if you're a lazy mutha don't sweat it! Just rock the look and make like you've been hitting it hard down the gym! The girls all have their own unique style and take on what makes great sportswear so whether you are channeling the Jesy grunge look or prefer the street style of Jade, they've created a range and edit to suit us all - even us 40 plus followers of fitness fashion. Personally I'm big fan of Jesy's more "grunge" look and I love the use of mesh in her leggings. They're on my Xmas list.
I am almost as in love with this site as I am Space NK and Net a Porter which is quite frankly the highness accolade going. I LOVE the ethos behind the site and I am totally bowled over by the unique range and selection of fabulous brands they have on offer. I want it all. They also have regular discounts and promotional offers which is important as there are some seriously high end labels and prices on offer here.
Some of the brands that I am loving include: Alala, Heroine Sport, Hey Jo, Jogha, Lilybod, Lucas High, Michi NY, No Ka-Oi and Varley. Quite seriously, I bloody love them all. Its like Selfridges for Sports wear. All high octane, high fashion, seriously functional workout wear.
