Its Friday night - so that means its the next instalment in our weekly cocktail series!
Everyone has their own unique take on the Bloody Mary and no doubt you all think that your recipe is the best! Some like it sweet, spicy, tangy even slightly sour.
Did you know that the creation of the Bloody Mary is said to have been back in Paris after the First World War and co-incided with the arrival of the first ever tins of tomato juice from the USA?
It was originally made without booze. So what we today call a Virgin Mary! (personally don't see the point of anything "virgin" apart from my olive oil!). We have Ferdinand Pete Petiot of the famous Harrys American Bar in Paris to thanks for for adding in alcohol. Nice work Pete!
These days we've come to associate a Bloody Mary with hair of the dog. The perfect morning after recipe. It can almost be like breakfast in a glass and definitely constitutes one of your five a day!
Here's a very classic Bloody Mary recipe that's sure to go down a treat:
2 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
4 dashes of Tabasco sauce
Pinch of salt and pepper
5ml fresh lemon juice
120 ml tomato juice
Combine all the above ingredients in a mixing glass and just roll around to mix. Strain into a large glass three quarters filled with ice. Garnish with whatever tickles your taste buds! Try adding olives, lemon and lime wedges and cucumber sticks.
Now just relax, savour the flavour and wait for that hangover to to dissipate. Either that or just get right back on the horse!
