We'd only run out of fresh coffee! I'm not even joking girls. It was nothing short of a TRAGEDY!
I'd spent the whole evening in a right old pickle, worrying about when to launch my blog. I've been posting when I get a spare minute here and there before and after my real job!! Spurred on by reading the Million Dollar Blog though, I thought it was time to get myself into action!
Pushed the publish button this morning didn't I!
What the hell if no-one is out there it reading just yet (LIKE HELLOOOOOOOOO - is there actually any one out there?!!!)
Anyway, I digress.
So, basically, another restless night and just about nodding off at 5.30 this morning only to be woken by my alarm at 7.30. So basically I was in DIRE and I do mean DIRE need of my usual caffeine fix. Alas, the freshly ground coffee pot was empty, cue a mini tantrum from yours truly.
But then that got me thinking.
Should I really be drinking coffee anyway! I'm here to extol the virtues of being fab and fit over 40 but boy do I have some bad habits and caffeine is one of them.
So, I remembered all those nutritional guides I've been reading and researching, opened the fridge, pulled out a lemon and decided to start my day the much healthier way - with a hot water and lemon!
In case you need any further convincing, here are the top FOUR reasons why you should really ditch the caffeine first thing and switch instead to a refreshing brew of hot water and lemon.
1. Its a daily detox. The surprising alkaline nature of lemons (yes, the might well make your face wince but they're actually not at all acidic) helps balance your body pH and combined with the hot water, wakes up your liver and begins to flush away those nasty toxins from the night before ( or in my case, the red wine I drank!)
2. It gently but powerfully wakes up your digestive tract. You shouldn't really be over stimulating your system first thing. You need to ease it gently into the day, not unlike myself!
3. It supports weight loss. Lemon juice has pectin, a soluble fibre which can be handy in the battle of the bulge. I rest my case!!!
4. Its great for soothing an upset stomach. If like me you often head to bed bloated, hot water first thing will get to work reducing the acidity and soon have you feeling back on form and fitter than a butchers dog!
So there you have it. Four very good reasons why you should ditch the caffeine (at least as your very first drink of the day) and swap for a hot water and lemon instead. Unless you are on holiday and then it is perfectly acceptable to have champagne!
