Hands down my biggest passion in life isn't fitness or beauty although I do LOVE those both with a vengeance........it's FASHION. Always has been, always will be.
I'd even go as far as to say that fashion is my first love
I don't see why the love affair with being stylish should fade just because you're of a certain age.
By now, you should have formed your own unique style and have a great understanding of your body's form and fit to achieve your most flattering silhouette. You should be comfortable in your own skin and know how to rock those curves or disguise those lumps and bumps. Personally I'm bottom heavy with a trim neat waist so I love to dress my curves.
Don't shy away ladies of flaunting what god gave you! You're an FFF after all!
The watch words when you're more mature and still a dedicated follower of fashion are ELEGANT & STYLISH. You want to be contemporary, classic and cool rather than a youthful fashion victim. Leave the teeny tiny playsuit for just that, the teens!
LABELS TO LOVE
Here's my pick of the best labels around to fashion your 40's fit!
You might not naturally associate All Saints with 40+ fashion but it forms a very essential part of my own off duty wardrobe. They do knitwear, jeans and casual cool to a complete T. The All Saints vibe isn't about trend, it's about clothing for individuals that expresses their own attitude. The colour palette is muted and flattering for all ages and skin tones and it speaks to strong and empowered women who don't always want to feel pretty and girly. Wear it with confidence and attitude.
Is there any woman reading this blog who doesn't have a Karen Millen piece in her wardrobe? I very much doubt it. Karen Millen has come to be the watch word for confident women who know and own their style. Perfectly cut, trend led tailoring, stylish, chic and with a strong eye on heritage fabrics.
We're all familiar with this stalwart of the British high street. Its even been given the royal seal of approval and as we know, the Duchess of Cambridge may not be 40 but she certainly loves to follow fashion.
Reiss has mastered the art of femininity, fit and fashion. You'll always find plenty of fabrics and textures in their range and with a few key purchases you can create a well thought out collection.
Whistles is all about contemporary fashion for all ages. As they themselves say, "Whistles encapsulates an intelligent sense of design with timeless and luxurious pieces".
It's about pulling together a laid back and modern look for an altogether effortless and elegant sartorial style. Each collection is always tightly and meticulously edited to comprise classic pieces which will stand the test of time. Just like us FFF's.
Ok, so you've probably already guessed that my favourite French label, possibly even my favourite label, is The Kooples. I love their women's tailoring. Last time I checked I had 4 of their suits hanging in my wardrobe all of which I can wear for work but also dismantle to create my weekend look.
I love a blazer with skinny jeans combo. The look itself is part retro and part rock chick. It's a perfect balance of being chic but not threateningly trendy.
Their mission: "to sell simultaneously to mothers and daughters."
No piece on fashion from me would be complete without a mention of my fashion fave, the Grand Dame of fabulousness, Vivienne Westwood. If I had to pick one label only to wear till the day I died it would be Viv's.
Her Anglomania range brings together English heritage tailoring with French design and proportion. No self respecting FFF should be without at least one piece of Vivienne Westwood in her wardrobe.....even if you do have to break the bank to buy it!
